Located in the southwest corner of Washington state, Battle Ground is a rapidly-growing community of around 17,000 residents. The town's unique name comes, not from a field of conflict, but from the place where an early fort commander negotiated a peaceful end to a confrontation with the native Klickitat tribe. The early European settlers were eager for a battle and mocked the commander's peaceable efforts...and the name stuck.
Today, Battle Ground is known for its scenic surroundings, its annual harvest festival and as a desirable suburban town near Vancouver, Washington and Portland, Oregon.
Shopping and Dining
Although many major retailers are located within a short drive of Battle Ground and there is a mall in nearby Vancouver, the most interesting shopping in town is to be found in the city's independent shopping districts.
